Destin High School Academic Team Opens Season with Strongest Tournament Showing Yet

DESTIN, Fla. — Destin High School’s junior varsity and varsity Academic Teams opened the 2026–27 competition season with their strongest tournament performance to date at an intramural competition in Crestview.

The varsity team won four of its five matches, tying for the most wins in the tournament. Total points determined the final standings: Collegiate High School placed first with 530 points, Niceville High School second with 485, and Destin High School third with 465. The junior varsity team also won more matches than it has at any previous tournament.

Destin competed alongside teams from Crestview High School, Collegiate High School, Niceville High School, Rocky Bayou Christian School, Fort Walton Beach High School, and Laurel Hill School.

The DHS Academic Team began in 2022 with a junior varsity squad and has since grown to include both JV and varsity teams. Last year, varsity captain Caden Veach advanced to state competition as a member of Okaloosa County’s state championship team.

“Our students have worked hard for this start to the season,” said Dr. Donald Williams, Jr., executive director of Destin High School. “Their growth reflects the dedication they bring to every practice and competition.”

Destin High School will host an intramural Academic Team tournament on November 18, 2026. Families and community members are invited to come support the Sharks.
